Paul Friedlander is a physicist and award winning kinetic light sculptor who's work has been exhibited all over the world since he began in the 70's. His most eye catching pieces use rapidly spinning rope and chromastrobic projection (sometimes up to a whopping 400,000 lumens!) to create the appearance of flowing waves of light in mid air.
